Open Studio Reception -- a Great Party

Our daughter-in-law outdid herself catering our Open Studio Reception last week. All the food was absolutely delicious, and the table looked festive and appealing. The irresistible desserts looked lovely on a buffet on the side, and our guests certainly did them justice. A fine calligrapher, Ashley made little signs for each dish so that there was no mystery about the food. UPDATE: I have added an index to all blog posts about planning and holding an art reception. Access it here.

I would have liked more photos of the whole scene and the guests interacting, but hosting and mingling (and attaching those wonderful "sold" stickers to some paintings) were much more important. We were fortunate with the weather; although it was cloudy, the afternoon steadily brightened and became milder, but not hot. You see a few of the guests enjoying the gentle breeze in the backyard.
For the artists among my readers--and anyone else interested--I will soon post more information about the reception details. Important features of the day like the guest book, door prizes, sales tax, receipts, and studio policies all needed to be considered, planned, and set up in advance. You may find ideas for your own parties and for art marketing.
Question of the day: Isn't it fantastic that we can share events and information through blogs?

  4. You are most welcome, Marlene; it's always fun to visit your blog.

Thank you Cher; yes, both our "daughters" (wives of sons) are amazing and enrich our lives with their talents and love.

Wish you both (and all blogging friends) could share the occasional event in person. I would have loved seeing you two at the reception!

  5. Wow; I was posting my reply to Marlene and Cher and your sweet comment popped up, Anne. We were pleased and thankful that your mom came to the event and wish you could have been here as well. I welcome studio visitors anytime, so do not hesitate to phone whenever you are in the area to set up a time you can stop by. Your creativity is an inspiration to me.

  7. Oh Sherry, I wish you could come, too; it would be terrific to meet in person. I agree with you, though, that blogging can develop real friendships of a different kind--a valuable and affirming kind. You are a treasure!

  8. Oh My Goodness, Mary! What a feast for the eyes! Your open studio reception is a grand idea and, with the help of your family, you certainly did it with style and grace! I'm sure your beautiful paintings are continuing to sell as I write this comment! Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

  9. Thanks for your enthusiastic encouragement, Rosemary, as always! Yes, selling is going well enough; people often need some time to think about taking the step of purchasing a painting, especially the larger ones that are about $395. I appreciate your visit and comment.
