Exploring--More Photos from Punta Gorda, Florida

Since I seem to keep running short of time to write a post, today I'll show you a few more scenes from our recent trip to Punta Gorda, FL with fewer words than usual :>). One photo above shows the incredible base of a banyan tree in front of our hotel. Yes, that is one tree, believe it our not. Banyan trees spread by sending trailers down from branches, which root and grow up as new trunks attached to the existing branches. The cypress swamp scene is from a walk on our guided tour through Babcock Wilderness Adventures (described in the previous post).
The other photos are views along Charlotte Harbor, off the Gulf of Mexico. I took the sunset picture through our hotel window, while the palm-framed photo looks in the same direction from the town park which was just below our window to the west of our hotel.
Thank you to all you faithful blog friends who keep on checking in and visiting, even when my posting slows down. I think that I'll be able to get closer to my goal of posting once every four of five days in coming weeks.

  1. What gorgeous trees, Mary! I didn't know what a banyan tree was, and it is so interesting to read of how they grow. It looks as though there is yet a new offshoot heading down to the ground to take root! Florida sure is beautiful! I've visited a couple of times and always have loved its beauty. ('Course, I am scared of the 'gators though! LOL)

  3. Thank you, Autumn--I first saw banyan trees about 15 years ago and find them fascinating. You are right about the beauty in Florida. What many visitors don't realize is the tremendous variety of scenery and eco-sytems across the state. There is so much more here than beaches and palm trees (although I really like beaches and palm trees, too).

I wish I could see all your banyan pics, Manon. Banyans are amazing, and you can get a number of very different photos just by walking around one of these giants and taking it from different angles.

  4. That Banyan tree is amazing. We have a tree here in town which does the same thing and its base is about 20 foot in diameter. I did a post on it about 2 years ago. We call it the Wonder Tree as it is the only one of its kind in Southern Africa and no one knows how it got here or where it comes from. It is an amazing sight.

I love the colors in that sunset shot. It looks like you had a great vacation.
